OTTAWA — In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that legislation introduced in parliament that may impede upon Indigenous rights must be resolved through an Indian Leg Wrestling match.
“This ruling today should have been made a long time ago,” said Chief Justice Richard Wagner. “The country definitely would have been in much better shape, literally and figuratively.”
The decision to move forward with the strength based settlement process was introduced after centuries of a relationship that has literally gone nowhere.
Today’s supreme court decision was welcomed by Indigenous leaders. “Back home, we call it Leg Wrestling. But sure, bring it on,” said AFN Chief Perry Bellegarde as he began stretching outside the House of Commons.
